Thoughts about OpenSuSE
I caught up with Greg Mancusi-Ungaro, Director of Marketing, Linux and Open Source, at Novell, to ask for more details. Mancusi-Ungaro is the point person for the press on the openSUSE project. The openSUSE initiative was announced a month ago at LinuxWorld, and the response so far seems healthy. They have over 4,000 registered participants, and have received hundreds of high-quality bug reports on four pre-release versions.
According to Mancusi-Ungaro, the pace of development has increased with the opening of the development process to the community. SUSE has always maintained a rapid release schedule, and now many more people are reviewing, commenting, and contributing to the code. I would expect this to be the case.
When asked why Novell made the decision to open the development process, Mancusi-Ungaro claims that it's been in the works for a while.

Samsung is working on new memory technologies that provide faster bandwidth inside hardware for data to travel between CPUs, storage and other computing resources. The company also announced it was partnering with Red Hat to ensure these technologies have Linux compatibility. |
