TrueCrypt 5.0 now with Linux GUI
The TrueCrypt foundation recently released TrueCrypt version 5.0, the latest version of the Open Source disk encryption software for Linux, Windows and Mac OS X.
Before version 5.0 was released, Linux users had to resort to other GUI frontends or stick with the command line version. GUI options weren’t too bad, the more advanced Forcefield GUI did everything but had a rather arcane interface. The more polished EasyCrypt GUI however had an excellent balance between features and power.
Besides a whole range of new features and improvements, TrueCrypt 5.0 now offers a native GUI for Linux users.
In this review I’ll use Ubuntu 7.10 to install TrueCrypt 5.0 on. Unlike some stupid people claim, installing software on Ubuntu (or Linux in general) isn’t that hard. Head over to the TrueCrypt website and follow the download link. Select your favorite Linux flavor and click download.
