DARKSTAR Linux 2008.1: quite Alpha to me
Released on Jan. 8, DARKSTAR Linux 2008.1 is still difficult to download, as the server is overwhelmed. This torrent might be your best choice. I initially downloaded the DVD image in the night of Jan. 10 to 11, using the torrent. I have however only tried it yesterday.
Although DARKSTAR Linux 2008.1 says it's Slackware-based, I can't tell of any version it's based on. The boot kernel is 2.6.23.8, while slackware-current is featuring 2.6.23.12, and Slackware 12.0 has 2.6.21.5. And I will say again that it comes with Firefox 2.0.0.9 — weird oversight.
The LiveCD correctly entered X in 1280x800 on the laptop (i945), and 1600x1200 @75 on the desktop PC (Radeon 9200SE [rv280]). On the laptop, I noticed it loaded bcm43xx during the boot (but it won't work without the firmware).
