This is probably the most boring screenshot ever, but it’s an important one. That’s Ubuntulite 7.04, a fresh installation and a working system. Laugh if you want, but that’s an important step.
Shae Stevens in the Ubuntulite group has put together a workable deb that, when installed via aptitude, brings in the entire framework for an ultralight system. It’s built around Openbox with XDM, and has a nice array of default applications to keep your old Pentium II in business.

Latest technology for obsolete hardware ? what's next ?
Fresh flower on cow dung?
We keep on forgetting, there are old kernels and software just for K6-2 when it was the latest invention.
We are now moving on, by obsolescence and replacement to starve off economical recession. We are pushing for realtime instantaneous profit and loss statements to run business profitably. And Multitasking power is needed to gather info for quick education and correct decisions immediately.
It maybe fun to extend the old computer hardware for a few more years, but the direction of maintenance is getting applications more sophisticated; not using latest technology of kernels to run on old slow computers, then use inferior applications to screw up new powerful computers?
Turn around quick, so no one knows you are going the wrong direction. Put more better applications on older kernels to extend the life of your old hardware??? Tuxmachines.org is now paying more attention to latest technology applications, so you can put the latest applications on kernel 2.4.x and run your old computers profitably?
