Even though their first generation Eee PC has yet to launch later this month, Asus is reportedly already planning to release their second generation Eee PC in April 2008 featuring Intel's Merom processor, reduced power consumption and no cooling fan.
Although the exact specifications and launch price aren't known yet, the first batch of Eee PCs are expected sell for about $249 and feature a 7-inch LED-backlit screen, built-in Wi-Fi, 4GB solid state disk, 512MB memory, and will run a customized version of Linux worked out between Asus and Intel. It will also come with OpenOffice, Firefox and other open-source apps preinstalled.

re: EEE
Seems like a "Osborne" in the making to announce a better release before the first has even shipped.
//that said, I'll still probably get a v1 since I'm oh so tired of lugging even a ultra-portable laptop thru the airport.
The Morom cpu uses new technology ? 12mb cache ?
The new technology of cmos transistors using new gate materials which are good for lower voltage(lower dielectric constant, lower capacitance). There are also technology of multilayers of transistors being developed.
Morom is more rom. But the technology require higher temperature to reset the rom. So, no cooling fan is better, the cpus will be between 25-35 watts.
Some of these technology is still not yet suitable for production of 32 um line width lithography.
Acer has nothing to lose, to announce the new version of laptop for a cpu that had to be tested yet? But the difference is only 12 mb of cache vs. 3 mb of L2 cache at 1066 mhz PSB. 4 cores instead of 2, for more threads?
