Consequences of Closed Source Software in Linux
With the news of Linspire's CNR coming soon to Ubuntu, and Automatix now offering a limited number of closed source, commercial applications, what possible consequences will this have on the Linux community and open source as a whole?
Most casual Linux users appear to be generally unconcerned, while purists are completely up in arms. I suspect that many purists are concerned about possible contamination of open source as a whole and fear the potential for quality being lost in the shuffle. In short, who knows what their deal is?
It's About Choices, Not Dogma. To those who still choose to harbor harsh feelings toward proprietary software, I think I would point out that like it or not, some distros have been and will continue to include it. Now, I’m neither downing this fact or supporting it, I’m merely pointing out that this is a fact of life and we might as well make the best of it.
