A Look At Linux - Is It For You?
To be perfectly honest, I am writing this as a reply to alexexmachina's posting where his "unbiased" A Look At Windows Vista - Is It For You? seems a little too biased towards how great Vista is. So here is my reply in the form of a look at Linux so Bring on the flames
Is Linux For You?
If you want a platform that will work on a wide range of hardware across several different architectures then Linux is for you. If you want an easy to use system that gives you the power to configure it to work how you want then Linux is for you. If you want a secure and stable system from which to work from then Linux is for you. If you want a system where all decisions are made for you and you prefer to have a standardised computing experience then Linux is not for you.
Hardware
Linux is such a flexible system that it can run on any hardware you have lying around. With Linux you get extra usefull life out of your hardware and maximise your investments. Any computer configuration can benefit from the use of Linux as it efficiently uses available resources. Computers that were previously unusable with different operating systems find a new lease of life with Linux.
UI Features
Everybody is an individual so why should we all have to stare at a standardised interface. With linux there is a rich choice of interface designs and as much of or as little eye candy as anyone would ever need. Every part of a Linux UI is fully customizable in terms of color, size, shape and position. There is such a large choice of window managers that anyone can find a perfect fit for their needs.
