My experience upgrading from Ubuntu 6.10 to Ubuntu 7.04
I’ve just completed my upgrade from Ubuntu’s Edgy Eft to Fiesty Fawn. I’m running this on a Lenovo x60s with an Intel Centrino Duo processor (1.66Ghz each), 1.5 GB of RAM and the Intel i915 chipset.
Unlike my last experience, this one went very, very smooth. In fact, there were no hiccups, glitches or bugs that I’ve found so far and I’ve tested all of my critical stuff.
What exactly have I tested?
Visual: Both my dual monitor setup and my single monitor setup (with Beryl) work flawlessly. Resolutions are fine and the new fonts are nice and smooth. Videos via VLC work fine.
Audio: XMMS had reverted to it’s default ALSA driver. I use the OSS driver. This was a matter of launching XMMS, going to Preferences and then selecting OSS Driver from the drop down list at the bottom. Everything else sees fine.
Networking: No problems with wired or wireless.
Printing: No noticeable changes.
Automatix2: I needed to reinstall from the website to get the Feisty version. Simply go here and grab it.
OpenOffice 2.2 is very slick. Opened all of my documents right off and a couple I got from the intarweb.
