    The Wine development release 5.18 is now available.
    
    What's new in this release (see below for details):
      - Vulkan shader compilation using the new vkd3d-shader library.
      - USER32 library converted to PE.
      - Console no longer requires the curses library.
      - Support for display modes with various orientations.
      - A number of syntax fixes in the WIDL compiler.
      - Non-recursive makefiles.
      - Various bug fixes.

  • Wine 5.18 is out making use of the new vkd3d-shader library

    The team hacking away on the Wine compatibility layer have put out another development build with Wine 5.18 now being made available. Wine 5.18 comes not long after the Wine team also released vkd3d 1.2, their Direct3D 12 to Vulkan translation layer and it seems part of the work was on integrations here.

  • Wine 5.18 Released With VKD3D 1.2's vkd3d-shader Usage

    Wine 5.18 is out as the newest bi-weekly feature development release.

    Wine 5.18 isn't the most exciting feature release in recent times but is notable in that Vulkan shader compilation is now done using the vkd3d-shader library. That library was introduced as part of this week's VKD3D 1.2 release for mapping Direct3D 12 over Vulkan. VKD3D 1.2 is much more capable than the prior v1.1 release from nearly two years ago.

    Wine 5.18 also converts the USER32 library to being of the portable executable (PE) format, the console no longer requires the curses library, support for display modes with various orientations, syntax fixes in the WIDL compiler, non-recursive makefiles now for the build system handling, and various bug fixes.

  • Wine-Staging 5.18 Adds sRGB Color Profile, Another Fix For Microsoft Flight Simulator

    Building off Friday's release of Wine 5.18 is now an updated Wine-Staging that adds just over 600 patches atop the upstream code-base for delivering experimental/testing features.

    Wine-Staging 5.18 is coming in lighter than its predecessors in that it's down to just 615 patches thanks to a number of patches around MSXML3, NTDLL, XACTEngine, and others making their way into the upstream Wine code-base. But there is also new functionality with Wine-Staging 5.18 including:

    - Initial sRGB color profile support, in addressing a six year old bug around some applications needing sRGB color space support. This helps, for example, Microsoft Office 2007/2010 with PDF export support.

I started the VM, opened a console to it, and installed Ubuntu by using the defaults. This took longer than it did on my x86 servers, but it did get created nevertheless, and I was able to use the console and SSH to access it.

    Google has announced the latest set of Stadia Pro games, along with new titles about to release like Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice and Watch Dogs: Legion. PLUS news of Ubisoft+ coming to Stadia soon. What is Stadia? A quick primer for people not following: it's a game streaming service that uses Debian Linux under the hood along with the Vulkan graphics API. Playable on Linux in Chromium / Chrome browsers. You can either buy games, or subscribe to Stadia Pro to claim games each month (or do both).

    Wildermyth is the character-driven, procedurally-generated tactical RPG with an art style resembling papercraft and it's brilliant. Now it's also bigger with a big campaign update out. In Wildermyth you play through various generated campaigns, each of which mixes things up like characters and events and so every play-through is different. You're supposed to see it as something resembling a classic tabletop RPG experience. Mixing together a party-based RPG with overworld exploration, random events and tactical turn-based combat there's a lot to love about it.

    Howdy Godotters! It's-a me! Fabio! It is time for an update on the Godot export for the Web. In the last few months, a lot has been going on regarding the Godot export for the Web. Most of the enhancements mentioned in the previous report have now been merged into the master branch, and backported to 3.2 (included in 3.2.4 beta 1). This sadly does not yet include the virtual keyboard support, since implementing it without impacting the experience on touchscreen-enabled devices that also have a physical keyboard has proven harder than expected. There is great news, though, on the other topic mentioned in that report, which is... GDNative support on HTML5 exports! Additionally, a new prototype version of the Godot Web Editor is now available for you to try out.
