Windows Vista 10 Turned Into Joke

  • Windows 10 warning: anger at Microsoft rises with serious new failure

This is the future of proprietary operating systems like Windows, macOS and iOS as their parent companies move towards services and subscription models. More and more, they’ll use their operating systems to push their services and subscriptions, to the detriment of the user experience. It’s been happening in Windows 10 for a few years now, and iOS, too, is riddled with ads for Apple’s services.

  • Linux-Based Windows 12 Promises Flawless Updates, Available for Free

The photo gallery on the page is mostly the same screenshot with a different desktop background, and by the looks of things, it indeed appears to be a Windows 10 theme with flat icons.

  • Linux-based Windows 12 Lite is '3x faster than Windows 10' and 'immune from ransomware'

Sounds too good to be true? Well it might not surprise you to hear that this isn’t an official Microsoft product, rather it’s a version of Linux Lite 4.8 LTS with Windows 10 wallpaper and flat icons.

The official website looks like something out of the nineties, which makes the line that says "You have all the tools now for designing really good websites" even more entertaining.

Windows 12 Lite isn’t available to download from the website, but you can buy it for £15 on DVD. You really shouldn’t though.

  • Windows 7: a major bug prevents turning off or restarting the PC

Windows 7 is once again affected by a strange bug, the second after the end of OS support. Many users complain that they cannot shut down or restart their PC. The problem seems to be quite widespread. Dozens of messages are flowing into Reddit, Twitter and Microsoft forums. Pending a possible fix, there is a solution to fix the bug.

Officially, Windows 7 is no longer supported by Microsoft since January 2020, which means that the system will in principle no longer receive updates to correct bugs or security breaches. Fortunately, it is still possible to update your PC for free to Windows 10.

However, Microsoft was forced to release an update for Windows 7 after discovering a minor, but particularly annoying bug preventing the display of wallpapers. This time, it’s a new, much more annoying bug that affects the operating system.

  • Sick of Windows 10? Linux-based Windows 12 Lite promises to be three times faster

Windows 10 is experiencing a spectacularly bad run of faulty updates recently, and if you’ve had enough, then Windows 12 Lite is promising to fix those issues.

Now, we should say straight away that this is not an official release from Microsoft. Instead, it appears to be a modified version of the Linux Lite 4.8 LTS distro made to look like Windows 10 with the default background wallpaper and custom icons.

"Windows 12 Lite" is not what you think

  • "Windows 12 Lite" is not what you think (unless you're thinking Linux-based Windows 10 knockoff)

Microsoft has embraced Linux and open source software in recent years. The company acquired github, turned its Calculator app into an open source project, added an optional Linux terminal to Windows 10, and even developed its own Linux kernel.

But you know what the company’s probably not going to do? Release anew operating system called Windows 12 that’s based on Linux.

That hasn’t stopped some independent developers with lousy website design skills from doing just that though. Redditor hexsayeed spotted a GNU/Linux distribution called Windows 12 Lite at a computer fair recently.

This Linux distribution doesn't care about copyright [sic]

  • Windows 12 Lite: This Linux distribution doesn't care about copyright

Webhouses describes Windows 12 Lite as a Linux Lite 4.8 LTS Desktop with the Windows 10 desktop background applied. The developers of the Linux distribution do not appear to be too concerned about potential copyright issues, and continue by writing that it is "far superior in every respect to Windows 10". Apparently, Windows 12 Lite 4.8 solves "all the problems of the poor operating system" too, the poor operating system presumably being Windows 10.

According to the developers, Windows 12 Lite is also "the best operating system for Windows 7 users". While this could be quickly dismissed as a hoax, physical copies of the distribution are being sold. One Redditor, for example, spotted Windows 12 Lite being sold at a "local computer fair".

To be clear, this distribution likely infringes on multiple trademarks. We would not recommend trying "Windows 12 Lite" in at all, but the website is a fun read, as are the comments on the ensuing Reddit thread.

  • There’s a ‘Windows 12 Lite’ OS in the market but you shouldn’t use it

Microsoft has its own Windows NT kernel, based on which is the latest Windows 10 operating system. But as interesting as it may sound, there’s a Windows OS version based on Linux kernel as well. Spotted by a Redditor and shared by Liliputing website, there is a ‘Windows 12 Lite’ operating system available in the market. It has been mentioned that Windows 12 Lite, a software that has not been announced officially anywhere, is a Linux distro based on LiteOS that has a Windows 10 wallpaper.

From the image of the pamphlet shared by the Reddit user and the official website named webhouses.co.uk/lite, ‘Windows 12 Lite’ is said to be for those users who wish to upgrade from Windows 7. “Lite’s 4.8 desktop is designed for those who migrate from Windows 7 with the Lite background. You just add it to your pictures then select it as background using System settings,” states the website.

Windows 12 Lite ships as Linux in drag

  • Windows 12 Lite ships as Linux in drag

A version of Linux which rips off Windows has shipped and we really expect Vole to take notice – even if it is keen to say it is all open sauce friendly these days.

Windows 12 Lite resembles Windows 10, but it is really just Ubuntu in drag. It is being touted by its developers as superior to Windows 10 "in every respect". Someone is even selling physical install discs of the dodgy Linux distribution, too.

The software is made by an UK outfit called Webhouses which says Windows 12 Lite is a Linux Lite 4.8 LTS Desktop with the Windows 10 desktop background applied.

Linux-Based Windows 12 Lite Is Three Times Faster Than Windows

  • [Older] Linux-Based Windows 12 Lite Is Three Times Faster Than Windows 10

Since its advent in 2015, Windows 10 has been affected by countless problems and bugs. Sadly, the updates meant to fix the flaws in this operating system work the other way round. If you’ve had enough of Windows 10 and wish to switch to a different operating system, then the Linux-based Windows 12 Lite might impress you.

A Redditor recently discovered Windows 12 Lite discs being sold at a local computer fair. It is worth noting that Microsoft didn’t officially launch Windows 12 Lite. In fact, Microsoft in no way is associated with this newly discovered operating system.

  • How To Install MongoDB on AlmaLinux 9 - idroot

In this tutorial, we will show you how to install MongoDB on AlmaLinux 9. For those of you who didn’t know, MongoDB is a high-performance, highly scalable document-oriented NoSQL database. Unlike in SQL databases where data is stored in rows and columns inside tables, in MongoDB, data is structured in JSON-like format inside records which are referred to as documents. The open-source attribute of MongoDB as a database software makes it an ideal candidate for almost any database-related project. This article assumes you have at least basic knowledge of Linux, know how to use the shell, and most importantly, you host your site on your own VPS. The installation is quite simple and assumes you are running in the root account, if not you may need to add ‘sudo‘ to the commands to get root privileges. I will show you the step-by-step installation of the MongoDB NoSQL database on AlmaLinux 9. You can follow the same instructions for CentOS and Rocky Linux.

Ghost is a very popular open-source content management system. Started as an alternative to WordPress and it went on to become an alternative to Substack by focusing on membership and newsletter. The creators of Ghost offer managed Pro hosting but it may not fit everyone's budget. Alternatively, you can self-host it on your own cloud servers. On Linux handbook, we already have a guide on deploying Ghost with Docker in a reverse proxy setup. Instead of Ngnix reverse proxy, you can also use another software called Traefik with Docker. It is a popular open-source cloud-native application proxy, API Gateway, Edge-router, and more. I use Traefik to secure my websites using an SSL certificate obtained from Let's Encrypt. Once deployed, Traefik can automatically manage your certificates and their renewals. In this tutorial, I'll share the necessary steps for deploying a Ghost blog with Docker and Traefik.
