The hunt for a Linux PC

Where can the average South African consumer get their hands on a new PC loaded with Linux instead of Windows? Not a lot of places, as it turns out.

After a few days of posing as an eager Linux PC buyer and searching for the proverbial needle in a Microsoft haystack, only three Linux-installed PCs could be found.

The search began with a list of the top distributors, manufacturers and retailers. Rather than go through the usual media channels, each company's sales department was contacted directly.
