Ubuntu 6.10 Upgrade First Impressions

I took the plunge yesterday and upgraded my machine from Ubuntu 6.06 to 6.10. The upgrade instructions were very simple. I was extremely impressed with the upgrade. Absolutely no problems whatsoever.

Brief first impressions of Ubuntu 6.10:

* Appearance of bootup screen nicer but it appears no faster than Ubuntu 6.06
* Firefox 2 - nice to see this addition to the release

Linux Mint 17.2: If only all penguinista desktops were done this way

Thankfully this is not the case with Mint 17.2 because the underlying packages from Ubuntu have not changed. You can update to Mint 17.2 directly from Update Manager. That will continue to be true for the rest of the 17.x release cycle (which will last through Ubuntu 16.04, due in April 2016). And indeed you should upgrade. Given that it's easy and painless to update, combined with all the improvements in this release, Linux Mint 17.2 is well worth it. This is exactly the kind of user-focused release that solves small, everyday problems while leaving the rest of the system alone. Read more

KDE Ships KDE Applications 15.04.3

July 1, 2015. Today KDE released the second stability update for KDE Applications 15.04. This release contains only bugfixes and translation updates, providing a safe and pleasant update for everyone. More than 20 recorded bugfixes include improvements to kdenlive, kdepim, kopete, ktp-contact-list, marble, okteta and umbrello. This release also includes Long Term Support versions of Plasma Workspaces 4.11.21, KDE Development Platform 4.14.10 and the Kontact Suite 4.14.10. Read more
