  • Red Hat expands open source training in the region

Investment in open source technologies is growing more than twice as fast as technology spending as a whole, according to a report released last by IDC and sponsored by Red Hat.

Expertise to handle the growing open source environment need to grow as fast.

With this in mind, Red Hat, a renowned name in enterprise open source technologies, is keen to expand training initiatives in open source in the region.

  • The Unstoppable Progression of Object Storage

Object storage has consistently offered distinct benefits and advantages over traditional storage protocols. Much of this was illustrated in the May 2016 article in Red Hat Perspectives, Using Object Storage To Deliver The Agility Today’s Big Data Apps Require.

In recent years, features have been added to make object storage more than just a single protocol solution. In fact, object storage offerings are now capable of serving as the storage platform for vast data center workloads across different protocols and workloads. Object storage has progressed beyond cheap and deep archives and applications born in the cloud to a de facto common storage platform for multiple data center use cases.

  • The little bit different Fedora 26 Release Party – Part 2

Today was part 2 of the preparing sessions for the Fedora Release Party at PNC on Saturday the 29th of July. So I did spent again the day at this school, I remember a discussion I had at Flock in Prague about the motivation of Asians. There was a saying that you have to motivate them to doing things, I did not agree at that time and I still have this opinion. Whenever I did work with the young people here they allways doing it with lot of passion, yes they are take longer to understand complex things and it is harder for them but they allways if they do something they do it with a lot of motivation. Like today, the first class did still work as the second class was already waiting before the door and the second class did not stop me, so we did overdraw the time for more as 1.5 hours and they still did work as I left them.

  • How To Install MongoDB on AlmaLinux 9 - idroot

In this tutorial, we will show you how to install MongoDB on AlmaLinux 9. For those of you who didn’t know, MongoDB is a high-performance, highly scalable document-oriented NoSQL database. Unlike in SQL databases where data is stored in rows and columns inside tables, in MongoDB, data is structured in JSON-like format inside records which are referred to as documents. The open-source attribute of MongoDB as a database software makes it an ideal candidate for almost any database-related project. This article assumes you have at least basic knowledge of Linux, know how to use the shell, and most importantly, you host your site on your own VPS. The installation is quite simple and assumes you are running in the root account, if not you may need to add ‘sudo‘ to the commands to get root privileges. I will show you the step-by-step installation of the MongoDB NoSQL database on AlmaLinux 9. You can follow the same instructions for CentOS and Rocky Linux.

  • Self-host a Ghost Blog With Traefik

Ghost is a very popular open-source content management system. Started as an alternative to WordPress and it went on to become an alternative to Substack by focusing on membership and newsletter. The creators of Ghost offer managed Pro hosting but it may not fit everyone's budget. Alternatively, you can self-host it on your own cloud servers. On Linux handbook, we already have a guide on deploying Ghost with Docker in a reverse proxy setup. Instead of Ngnix reverse proxy, you can also use another software called Traefik with Docker. It is a popular open-source cloud-native application proxy, API Gateway, Edge-router, and more. I use Traefik to secure my websites using an SSL certificate obtained from Let's Encrypt. Once deployed, Traefik can automatically manage your certificates and their renewals. In this tutorial, I'll share the necessary steps for deploying a Ghost blog with Docker and Traefik.
